Frequently asked questions
How do I order a 3D print?
Upload your model in the instant quote, choose the material, colour, size, quantity and (for PLA and TPU) infill, and the price appears straight away. Add it to your cart, pay by card, and we print and ship it. Our online 3D printing service page walks through each step.
What file types can I upload?
STL, 3MF, OBJ and STEP files, up to 600 MB each, plus IGES, PLY and GLB. You can also upload a ZIP of several models, such as a download from Thingiverse, and every model in it is priced together. STL is the most common. Check that the size shown in the quote matches the part you expect, and scale it there if needed. Our guide to preparing an STL for print covers the file problems that cause failed jobs.
What if my file is too big or will not upload?
Email it to quotes@3dprinting.zone. If a file is over 600 MB, cannot be read, or the part is too big for our printers, we will look at it and send you a manual quote, free of charge.
How big can you print?
PLA parts up to 400 x 400 x 450 mm, and resin parts up to 80 x 127 x 160 mm. The quote tells you if a part does not fit. Larger models can often be split into pieces and joined after printing.
What materials can I order?
PLA in standard colours, silk, matte, glow in the dark, and carbon fibre, wood, marble, translucent and rainbow. Flexible TPU in eight colours. Resin comes in grey, clear, black and white. Our materials guide helps you choose.
Can you print several colours in one part?
Yes, up to 8 colours in one print, in standard, matte or silk PLA. Upload a 3MF file with its colours set, as saved from Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer, and the quote gives a multicolour price straight away. See multicolour 3D printing and our guide to setting up a multicolour 3MF.
Do you print in ABS, PETG, TPU or nylon?
TPU and PETG, yes: flexible TPU and tough, heat-resistant PETG are both in the instant quote. ABS and nylon are not in the instant quote at the moment. Email quotes@3dprinting.zone and ask; we will tell you what we can do. Choosing the right material for functional parts explains when you might need one of them.
What infill should I choose?
The default is 20%, which suits most models. Use 10% to 20% for display pieces and light props, and 40% or more for parts that take a load. You can set anywhere from 0% to 100% in 5% steps. Our infill percentage guide has real price examples. Resin parts are always printed solid.
Can I choose the layer height?
Not in the instant quote. If you need a specific layer height or surface finish, email us before you order. Our layer height guide explains the trade-offs.
How much does a 3D print cost?
PLA prices are based mostly on the weight of plastic actually printed, which depends on the size of the part and the infill, with a minimum of $1 per part. Resin parts start from about $5. Upload your file to see the exact price. We explain the factors in what affects the cost of a 3D print.
Do prices include GST?
Yes. The price in the quote includes GST. Shipping is added at checkout.
How much is shipping?
A flat $15 per order to anywhere in Australia, however many parts are in the order, and free on orders of $80 or more. For many models at once, bulk quoting prices them together. We do not ship outside Australia.
How do I pay?
By card, online at checkout. Payment is handled by Stripe. There is nothing to pay until you decide to order.
How long will my order take?
For weekday orders, we normally start printing the same day if the colour you chose is in stock. If it is not, it can take up to 3 business days for the material to arrive. If you have a deadline, email us before you order. See delivery times for custom 3D prints.
Can I see my past orders?
Yes. Go to your account and sign in with your email address; we email you a sign-in link, and you can see your orders and their status.
Can I return a 3D print?
Because every print is custom-made to your file and specifications, we cannot accept returns. If there is a problem with the print quality or your order, contact us and we will work with you to find a solution. If your order arrives damaged in shipping, contact us straight away so we can make a claim with the carrier and either replace the item or refund you. The full returns policy has the details.
