3D Printed Toys

Some of the most popular 3D models online are toys: flexi dragons that wiggle, fidget toys that click and spin, puzzles and name trains. Printed in colour, they come off the printer bright and finished, with no painting needed.

Toys people print

  • Flexi and articulated animals. Dragons, sharks, lizards and snakes that print in one piece with moving joints. Most are designed to print with no assembly at all.
  • Fidget toys. Spinners, clickers, sliders and infinity cubes.
  • Puzzles and brain teasers. Interlocking puzzles, mazes and puzzle boxes, with colours that make the pieces easy to tell apart.
  • Name toys. A child’s name as a train, a puzzle or a set of letters, in their favourite colours. They make good personalised gifts.
  • Party bag fillers. Small toys printed by the dozen for birthdays and school events.
  • Characters and figures. See custom 3D printed figurines.

Many of these are free to download from MakerWorld and Printables, often already set up in colour. See printing MakerWorld and Printables models.

Printing toys in batches

Copies of the same toy print together on one plate and share the colour changes. A party bag lot of ten flexi animals costs far less per toy than ten printed one at a time. Set the quantity on the quote to see the price per toy. From 10 copies, bulk pricing takes a further percentage off.

Safety

3D printed toys are not tested or certified as children’s toys. Please keep these in mind:

  • Not for children under 3. Small toys and pieces that break off can be a choking hazard.
  • Not for chewing or mouthing. PLA is not certified food-safe, and printed parts have fine gaps that are hard to clean.
  • Keep them out of heat. PLA softens in a hot car or in direct summer sun.

For older children, and for adults who like fidget toys, printed toys are sturdy and fun.

Colours and finishes

Toys are printed in PLA, in our standard PLA colours, including bright red, yellow, sky blue, pink, green and rainbow, plus silk for a shiny, metallic look. Flexi dragons in silk colours are especially popular. For toys that should squash and bend, a single-colour print in flexible TPU is another option.

How toys are priced

The price is the filament for each colour at its normal rate, including the small amount purged at each colour change, plus $4 an hour of print time. Both are worked out by slicing your file. See how much multicolour 3D printing costs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an instant price for a 3D printed toy?

Yes. Upload the 3MF file, with colours set for a multicolour print, and the price shows straight away. STL files are priced in a single colour.

Do flexi toys come out ready to move?

Yes. Flexi and print-in-place toys are designed so their joints print loose, and they move straight off the printer.

Are 3D printed toys safe for children?

They are not certified as children’s toys. They are not suitable for children under 3 or for chewing. For older children they are sturdy, but check for small parts.

Is it cheaper to print lots of the same toy?

Yes. Copies share plates and colour changes, so each extra toy costs much less than the first, and orders of 10 or more get bulk pricing too.

Do you ship toys Australia-wide?

Yes. Shipping is a flat $15 per order anywhere in Australia, free on orders of $80 or more.
