3D Printed Board Game Pieces

Board games and colour printing go well together. Players need to tell their pieces apart at a glance, and icons and symbols are easier to read in a contrasting colour. Whether you have lost a piece, want to upgrade cardboard tokens, or are making your own game, you can print the pieces in colour and get a price online.

Upload your game pieces for an instant price

Upload a 3MF file with the colours set and pick a filament for each colour. You’ll see the price straight away. Prices include GST, and shipping is a flat $15 per order anywhere in Australia, free on orders of $80 or more.

What gamers print

  • Replacement pieces. A lost meeple, pawn, die holder or token, matched to the original colour.
  • Upgraded tokens and markers. Resource tokens, score markers and status rings with raised icons in a second colour, in place of cardboard chits.
  • Player sets. A full set of pieces in each player colour, with the icon or symbol printed in a contrast colour.
  • Box inserts and organisers. Trays that hold every component in its place, so setup takes minutes instead of half an hour. These usually print in a single colour.
  • Card holders, dice towers and first-player markers. Table accessories in your favourite colours.
  • Your own game. Prototype pieces for a game you are designing, printed in small runs as you test it. See also prototypes and functional parts.

Many upgrade sets for popular games are free to download from MakerWorld and Printables. See printing MakerWorld and Printables models.

Printing a full set

A game set is usually lots of small pieces, which suits colour printing well. Put all the pieces on one plate in your file and they print together. Or upload one piece, set the quantity, and the copies print together on the same plate, sharing the colour changes, which keeps the cost per piece down. From 10 copies of the same piece, bulk pricing applies too.

A tip: pieces that are one colour with a contrast icon on top change colour only near the top, so they cost much less than pieces with colour on every layer.

Miniatures

For detailed miniatures, such as tabletop wargaming figures, resin printing gives finer detail than filament. Miniatures are usually printed in one colour and painted. See our guide to resin printing miniatures for tabletop games. For larger, stylised figures in colour, see custom 3D printed figurines.

Colours and finishes

Game pieces are printed in PLA, in our standard PLA colours, which cover the usual player colours of red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, purple and orange. Silk gold and silver are great for treasure, coins and first-player markers, and glow in the dark PLA is fun for spooky games, printed in a single colour.
